The Automotive Technology Department at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) is proud to sponsor the 25th Annual High School Automotive Skills Contest.
The purpose of this contest is to encourage any students interested in auto mechanics to thoroughly study and understand basic automotive principles and to learn the technical skills required of professional technicians working in the automotive service and repair industry. We also hope you can use this contest as a tool to prepare your students for the upcoming Skills USA Skills contests later this year. In addition, we want you and your students to be aware of the excellent automotive training programs at DMACC, so your students will have an option on where they can continue their training after graduation.
The Skills Contest will be conducted in two parts:
Part 1: Written Portion – This portion of the contest consists of an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) - type exam covering thebasics of each of the eight areas on the automobile as defined by ASE.
This portion will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Building 13 on the Ankeny Campus. All freshmen through seniors in your automotive classes are encouraged to participate in this segment. All contestants will compete in the morning, with lunch following the written contest. We will send you a confirmation letter and the contest rules once we receive your completed application.
Part 2: Hands-on Portion – The hands-on portion covers basic and high-tech automotive repair skills. This event will be held onFriday, December 16, 2016.
The eight schools (plus an alternate) with the highest written scores on Part 1 will be invited to send their two highest scoring juniors and/or seniors to compete as a team for the hands-on portion on Friday December 19, 2016. Prizes are given to all eight schools!!
In addition the Iowa Auto Dealers Foundation for Education will send the top placing team and instructor to the National Automotive Technology Competition http://nationalautotech.com/ in New York as well as providing them with tickets to attend the New York International Auto Show.
